Lil’ Pretzel Dogs

These are the perfect lil’ bite. These golden little cuties combined with a spicy mustard made for a great Saturday afternoon snack.

I had to go out and buy a package of Lil’ Smokies for about 3 bucks to make this beautiful batch of pretzel dogs, but believe me, it’s worth it. The pretzel dough was easy. I used ingredients already in my pantry, and within an hour, the dough had risen and was ready to share the spotlight with a Lil’ Smokie.

Ingredients for 32 pretzel dogs:

  • 1 batch of pretzel dough
  • 1 package of Lil’ Smokies
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Kosher salt
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/3 cups baking soda

In a small pot, bring the water and baking soda to a boil.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Prepare the egg wash and set aside.

Divide the dough into 32 equal pieces.

Using one piece at a time, roll it into a 6-inch long rope and wrap around each sausage. Place the pretzel dog seam down onto a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

In small batches, boil each pretzel dog for 30 seconds. Remove onto a cooling rack. When all the pretzel dogs have been boiled, brush with the egg wash and sprinkle with kosher salt.

Bake for 10 minutes and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving with spicy mustard.
